Easter In Ethiopia!

Recently, the Wolaita Zone government evaluated all 57 NGOs (non-government organizations) in our province and awarded Mossy Foot a certificate (shown above) for being the top NGO. This well-deserved award was given because of the impact Mossy Foot Project has in transforming the lives of the people we serve and helping them to transition back into contributing members of society.

We are so pleased and appreciate the excellent leadership of our Executive Director, Zebdewos Getahun, and dedicated work of our Ethiopian staff for earning this recognition. We thank you as a Mossy Foot partner, for your prayers and contributions which have made this possible.

“It’s a small world after all…”

How true! A number of years ago a lady in the US adopted a little boy from Ethiopia. Recently the Ethiopian family contacted this lady telling her of the health problems of her son’s brother. She reached out to us to see if we could help Natnael.

When he came to our Mossy Foot headquarters, Natnael was a very sad, discouraged young man with swollen, ulcerated legs. Treatment not only affected him physically but restored his hope and joy.

Sustainable food source

Can you imagine being food-challenged? I know I’m certainly not; I just go to the grocery store and buy whatever I want to eat. Our Mossy Foot families are among the poorest of the poor. Getting adequate food for their families is a huge challenge and it is critical for children to get adequate nutrition.

Recently we were awarded a small grant and decided to use it to provide a sustainable source of food for our families. Seven of the poorest families at each of our 16 clinics were identified. Each of these children received three hens and a rooster, along with two bars of soap. Now these children have eggs to eat and sell at the market along with baby chicks to provide an ongoing source for more chickens and eggs.

New hope for a widow

The book of James in the Bible says that “pure religion is this…to look after orphans and widows in their distress.” Recently, Chere Sofamo, one of our Mossy Foot widows, was blessed through the generosity of a donor to receive a much needed new house.

Chere’s husband and five of her sons died twenty years ago so she was totally alone. After developing mossy foot disease, she came to one of our clinics for treatment and made a good recovery. Mossy Foot Project built a house for this needy widow and gave her a mattress and blanket. She was overjoyed!

Chere lived by herself in this leaking and broken-down hut.
Now she has a sturdy cottage with a tin roof, doors, and windows.

Thank you so much for your ongoing partnership through your prayers and contributions. Please share the news of the Mossy Foot ministry with your friends so we can increase our outreach to those who are still waiting for help.
